Since its inception in 1997, Sanskriti has endeavored to promote Indian culture in the Bay Area. This year we have arranged for a plethora of cultural events for children and young adults. These are designed in the form of competitions judged by a panel of independent judges. Participating performers will be divided into three age groups.
- Group A: 2 to 5 years old
- Group B: 6 to 10 years old
- Group C: 11 to 15 years old
For each of the age groups above
Sit and Draw: This will
be held on Saturday, October 23, between 11:00AM
and 1:00PM. A theme for each age group will be announced on the
day of the competition. Paper will be provided. Time limit for the painting
is one hour.
- Recitation: This will
be held on Saturday, October 23, between 3:00PM
and 5:30PM. Language for the recitation is limited to Hindi and
Bengali. Time limit for each participant is two minutes. You are free
to choose your poem.
- Solo Singing: This will
be held on Saturday, October 23, between 3:00PM
and 5:30PM. The songs can be either in Hindi or Bengali. Time
limit for each song is three minutes. You are free to choose your song.
- Solo Instrumental Music:
This will be held on Saturday, October 23, between 3:00PM
and 5:30PM. Participants should bring their own musical instruments.
Time limit for each participant is three minutes.
Solo Dance: This will be
held on Saturday, October 23, between 3:00PM
and 5:30PM. Participants should bring their own cassettes or
CDs for the accompanying music. A cassette/CD player will be provided.
Time limit for each participant is three minutes.
- Group Dance: This will be held on Saturday, October 23, between 3:00PM and 5:30PM. This event has no age group (anyone up to age 15 years can participate). Each group should bring their own cassettes or CDs for the accompanying music. A cassette/CD player will be provided. Time limit for each troupe is five minutes.
Note: An event will be held as a competition only if at least five participants or groups register for the event. If there are less than 5 participants or groups for an event , the event will be held as a talent show.
Participation fee :
Participation fee for the individual events is $5 per participant. For group
events, each member must pay $5 as participation fee. If the participant already
holds a ticket for Saturday's program, he/she will be exempted from paying the
$5 participation fee. The $5 participant fee is per participant irrespective of the
number of events he/she participates in.
Prizes:
First, second
and third place holders for
each event in each age group will be awarded a handsome prize and a certificate.
All contestants will be given participation appreciation award. The prize
distribution will be on Sunday, October 24, between 5:00PM
and 5:20PM. You must purchase at least a children program ticket
of $5 to attend the event. The $5 children program ticket is valid for both
Satuday and Sunday.
Venue: Foothill College.
Time: The sit and draw competition will be held on Saturday, 23rd October, morning starting at 11:00AM. All other events will be held on Saturday, 23rd October, afternoon starting at 3:00PM. The results will be announced and prizes given on Sunday, 24th October at 5:00PM.
