Shwet Pathorer Tabil (White Marble Top Table)
Sanskriti presents the drama Shwet Pathorer Tabil on Saturday October 16th.
The play is an adaptation of the short story (with the same title) written by the famous Bengali humorist Sanjib Chattopadhyay. This was his first short story which appeared in the well known Bengali weekly “Desh” and it immediately established him as the most eminent humorist in Bengal after Parashuram and Shibram Chakraborty.
The hero of the story is a white marble top table. The story set, in 1940s, is told in a flash back through the eyes of a little boy. We see a day’s events of a Bengali family “ruled” by the boy’s father unfold around the marble top table. The story is a satire of many of the values that existed in Bengali families during that time.
