Dance Drama: Milane Biraho

"Milane Biraho" is a dance programme, presented under the able guidance and choreography of Guru Bandana Sen and her daughter Suchandra Banerjee(Mitra).

The composition of "Milane Biroho" attempts to bring out the likeness of one's feelings to the six seasons of the Bengali year. A human mind is a choreography, a slideshow of the Bengali seasons. The crowning glory of the seasons, "Boshonto" - Spring - epitomizes love, youth and beauty. "Boshonto" would be the theme of our presentation. We will try to probe deep into the Bengali perception, and depict the "Boshonto" that is embedded deep in the subconscious of the human mind.
The nectar of "Boshonto" permeates and inebriates nature. The earth, air and sky bedeck themselves in such a tumultuous harmony of colours, music and flavours that the body and heart of humans can do nothing but be drawn into a youthful carnival of love and celebration of beauty. Just as the blossoming of a girl into womanhood beguiles the minds of whoever witnesses this momentous transition, so does the breaking of spring signal a revelation of an ethereal beauty that leaves no one untouched by its magic. Alas, nothing is permanent ... except for change. Even Spring - that emperor of seasons, that purveyor of love and abundant happiness - has to bid adieu. So does youth. That's why even in the boundless mirth brought forth by "Boshonto" is hidden a note of sadness, a twinge of pessimism, a fear of an impending loss. And that is the essence of "Milane Biraho". Just as the going away of Spring leaves a desultory, parched earth in its wake - the demise of youth takes away hope and happiness from the grasp of humans who in vain try to cling on to illusions of eternal youthful bliss. Sadness co-mingled with happiness, premonition of tragedy admixed in joyous union - that is the story of human life, as indeed is the evolution of season.

The choreography "Milane Biraho", of 40 minutes, is based on classical dance movements to the tunes of RabindraSangeet. Our sincere thanks & heartiest regards to Guru Bandana Sen and Suchandra Banerjee(Mitra) for their guidance to our programme.
