Sanskriti presents an evening of enchanting dance, starting off with a mesmerising Kathak dance recital by Guru Bandana Sen followed by Creation, an extremely talented dance troupe from India, to energize our minds with an extremely powerful choreography modelled on the Ananda Shankar gharana.

A disciple of legendary "Nritya Samrat" Sambhu Maharaj, Guru Bandana Sen is amongst the finest dancers that India has ever produced. She has performed in more than 4000 programs in India and abroad. She represented India as the Cultural Ambassador to USSR and Germany and is also the recipient of the gold medal from the first President of India, Dr Rajendra Prasad.

Her style of dance is full of elegance, chaste and captivating. Her exposition of "bhava" (expression) is so graceful and poetic that she is called the "Queen of expression". It is an additional attraction to hear her distinct "bols" on different "talas", "Urdu Shairees"(Poems) and sweet songs.

Creation, led by Arunava Dhar and Samir Bhattacharya, brings to Bay Area a full team of 9 dancers. Many of these dancers have travelled and performed in over twenty countries as part of Ananda Shankar's troupe.

They have also performed in many prestigious events in India, some of which include :

  • Asian Games 1982
  • SAF Games 1987
  • Republic Day Celebrations at New Delhi 1990/91
