BiNa is here. A drama group of Bay Area Bangladeshis is making its mark
The tale of our lives is one of desire and despair, of love, loss and hope, of pain and then, sometimes, of hope against hope.
We all have signed up for - and sometimes resignedly so - a life marked by utmost responsibilities, hackneyed chores, and unrelenting stresses. However we still cherish our fond dreams. Starry skies, summer nights, rain-swept monsoon, childhood rhymes are all still integral part of our being. We still peek into the bygone days to relish the savory, timeless memories. In some odd ways we are living through, and acting on, those dreams sometimes even unbeknownst to us.
BiNa is the fruit of one such dream.
The dream of a group of people who
want to intimate and articulate their artistic voices through the act of
drama. In 2000 the group - yet unnamed, and unformed - tested their thespian
fervor by performing 'Deshe Phire cholo.com'. The drama was a resounding
success and drew rave reviews from the audience. This maiden act -
with its demonstrable success - spurred an intense momentum into the
group. Subsequently, the group flirted with the idea of a relatively formal
and crystallized organization. In Pahela Baishak (2002), under the aegis of
Dr. Abu Hena Mostafa Kamal, the leader of the group, BiNa came into being.
BiNa proclaimed its auspicious debut by staging "Amader Golpo" in 2003.
This was a grand success.
