Thakurmar Jhuli
In Natya Mela Kisholoy will present Thakurmar Jhuli, a dramatic adaptation of the original story ‘LaalKamal NeelKamal’ by Dakshina Ranjan Mitra Mazumdar.
Thakurmar Jhuli is the story of a little girl, Payal, who travels, in her dream, along with her friends to a magical world of this Bengali fairy tale.
Payal is a second generation Bengali-Indian-American. Like any other American child, her world of imagination is growing with Harry Potter and like. One evening when Payal was watching Harry Potter, her mother comes into her room and asks her to go to bed – it was her bed-time. Payal was reluctant since she did not want to miss the Harry Potter. Her mother then offers to read her a bed-time story and brings out Thakurmar Jhuli that was given to her by her mother-in-law when they were coming to US a good number of years ago. The magic now unfolds - Payal’s imagination starts spreading wings. All the characters in the story suddenly came alive and took Payal to an amazing land of fantasy where good fights the evil and prevails. Finally, when the dream ends, Payal wakes up with the most valuable question that is embedded in our value system. She seeks an answer to this through her amazing journey.
We all have a child residing somewhere deep in our heart with a fragrance of our childhood. This drama takes that child in us through that journey and opens up this magical world through the eyes of the young beholder.
